We are excited to share several important updates and enhancements happening at Walk In Closet as we continue to grow and improve your consignment experience. 

 

As a small business, we’re always learning, growing, and finding ways to do things better. Truthfully, in our 27 years, we haven’t made a lot of big changes—but the consignment world has really evolved, and it’s time for us to grow right along with it. These updates help us stay current with how shops are operating nationwide and allow us to continue building something strong for the future. Walk In Closet Consignment Agreement & Guidelines

Thank you for choosing Walk In Closet! We truly appreciate your trust in us and look forward to helping you turn your items into cash. Please review the following terms and guidelines:

Item Preparation & Standards

  • Styles should be current and in demand (typically within the last 1–2 years)
  • In like new condition, freshly laundered/pressed. Brought in on hangers to reduce wrinkling (hangers can be returned upon request)
  • We reserve the right to decline items based on condition, brand, or current inventory needs
  • Please do not take offense if items are declined, Selections are based on experience and what sells best
  • If an item is accepted but later found to have damage. It will be donated to a charity of our choice
  • Final acceptance is at the sole discretion of the owner

Pricing

  • Pricing is determined by experienced store personnel
  • Our goal is to maximize profitability while remaining competitive based on supply & demand

Payments

  • Consignors may check their account balance anytime through our Consignor Portal on our website. Use the email address we have on file to access your account
  • Balances can be collected during store hours
  • Amounts over $100 will be issued by check from the owner – please call ahead for check preparation
  • Funds must be collected within one year, Unclaimed balances will be forfeited
  • We recommend stopping in monthly or quarterly to collect

Payout Structure We offer a tiered payout system based on the selling price:

  • Items $0–$50 → Consignor receives 40%
  • Items $51–$300 → Consignor receives 50%
  • Items $300+ → Consignor receives 70% applies to high-end designer items such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, etc

Selling Period

  • Items are sold for 60 days or until the season ends -whichever comes first
  • Higher-ticket items may be granted an extended selling period at the store’s discretion to allow additional time to find the right buyer
  • We accept all seasons; however: If stored we need to keep your hangers and they will not be retuned.  
    • Some items may be stored and rotated to the sales floor when appropriate
    • We may temporarily pause accepting out-of-season items due to storage limitations

Fees

  • buyer’s fee is added to the purchase price (paid by the buyer)
  • Additional fees (such as online selling expenses) may apply
    • These do not affect the consignor’s listed percentage

Item Retrieval Policy

  • You are not required to pick up unsold items, just sit back and collect your earnings
  • Items not picked up within the window will: Become store property, Be donated or disposed of at our discretion
  • If you choose to reclaim items:
    • Must be done only 1–5 days before your items end date or season date, we do not do early pickups or send reminders or make calls. If we have less than one month before the end of the season you can not retrieve your items. 
      • Locate your items on the sales floor
      • Bring them to staff for removal from the system
      • Bring a bag for transport

 

 

Furniture Consignment Guidelines

  • Items must be:
    • Current and in demand
    • Clean and free of stains, tears, or odors
    • Complete with all parts
  • Consignors are responsible for any required assembly

 

Liability

  • Walk In Closet is not responsible for loss due to:
    • Fire
    • Theft
    • Damage

 

Policy Updates

  • Walk In Closet reserves the right to revise this agreement at any time
